St Albans Parking Consultation

St Albans City and District Council (SADC) has launched a consultation on parking in the area, published on 8 September. The proposals include the introduction of a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) designed to ensure that parking provision continues to meet the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors.

A CPZ can include measures such as resident permit parking, additional yellow lines, time limits for bays outside shops, and parking charges. SADC has identified a boundary area showing where current parking pressures are being felt and where the CPZ could have an impact if introduced.

As part of the consultation, residents are invited to share their views not only on the CPZ proposals but also on Haseldine car park and parking in general. This includes how long vehicles should be allowed to park there and what improvements could be made to benefit all users.

SADC has explained that a CPZ is being considered to respond to increasing non-resident demand, which makes it harder for local people to park near their homes.

Full details and the consultation survey can be found on the SADC website: www.stalbans.gov.uk/TROS

To share your views please go to: London Colney Proposed Controlled Parking Zone or use the QR code below

Alternatively, if you are aware of anyone that would like to share their views on a paper version of the survey, there are some in the parish office, in Caledon Community Centre, Caledon Road, London Colney. The office is maned 9am till 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Splash Park Closing for 2025

The Splash Park will officially close for the season on Sunday, 7 September 2025.

It has been a wonderful year for the park, with the Parish Council taking over the Splash Shack and the glorious sunshine making it a fantastic season for visitors. We are delighted that so many families have enjoyed the park and that it has been treated with such care and respect.

The Parish Council extends heartfelt thanks to all who visited the park, and to our dedicated staff for keeping the facilities clean, safe, and welcoming, as well as serving the community with refreshments throughout the season.

To mark the end of the season, from Friday 5 September to Sunday 7 September, all remaining ice creams will be available at a reduced price — a sweet way to round off another great year at the Splash Park.

We look forward to welcoming you back next season!

Help shape Hertfordshire’s future – have your say on changes to local government

Hertfordshire’s 11 councils have today launched a second phase of engagement on the future of local government in the county.

Residents, community groups, businesses and wider stakeholders are invited to share their views on how services will be delivered in Hertfordshire in the years ahead. This is a once in a generation opportunity to help shape the future of local government.

In December 2024, the Government set out plans to simplify local government in England to make it easier for residents and businesses to access services and to save money.

In Hertfordshire, there are currently two types of council (besides parish councils):

  • District and borough councils, which provide services such as housing, planning, bin collections, car parks and leisure services.
  • The county council, which is responsible for schools, libraries, roads, caring for children and supporting adults who need help with daily living.

Under the Government’s plan, these councils will be replaced by new unitary councils that will deliver all services currently provided by the two separate types of council.

All councils in Hertfordshire are working together to explore what this would look like. The aim is to create a system of local government that is easy to understand, delivers good value for money and responds to the needs of local areas.

Over the next month, councils will hold a mix of in-person and online events across the county. A dedicated website will also give further information on the changes, how you can get involved and share your views at https://www.hertfordshire-lgr.co.uk/.

This will remain open until 30 September 2025. After this date councils will review all the feedback before submitting the final proposal to Government at the end of November.

St Albans City and District Council will be holding their Local Government Reorganisation Community Information Evening on Thursday 18 September.

The event will feature a presentation from the Council Leader, Councillor Paul de Kort, and a question-and-answer session.

It will take place in the Council Chamber, at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street, AL1 3JE, at 6.30pm.

Residents are invited to attend in person or they can watch online.

A limited number of tickets are available to attend in person at https://StAlbansLGRevent.eventbrite.com.

The event will be webcast live on the Council’s website with the recording made available afterwards:  https://stalbans.public-i.tv/core/portal/home.

Councillor De Kort said: “Our Local Government Reorganisation Information Evening on Thursday 18 September is an opportunity for residents, community groups, local businesses and others to learn more about current proposals in Hertfordshire.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and share views. We hope lots of people will take this chance to join the discussion and find out more.”

Village Day 2025

Thank you so much to everyone who supported our Village Day event, it was wonderful to see so many people come out and enjoy a day in the sunshine with their friends and families, the atmosphere was brilliant thanks to you!

The purpose was to bring the local community together for a summer event after a few years without one, and with lots of different elements to the day; community groups, local business stalls, food, mobile bars, live music, local dance group, splash park, mini fair, park and so on, we felt it would give us a good gauge for the direction our future summer events could go in.

We’d like to publicly thank our wonderful community groups who volunteered their time, our local councillors, and all of our stall holders for coming along, as well as local businesses who provided our entertainment and infrastructure. Lastly thank you to our small but mighty team for working so hard to serve the community, we are very proud of our first Village Day and know with the feedback received we can do even better at future events, so we hope to see you come along and support the remaining events for 2025 and beyond. ‘It takes a village’ to create a community and we rely on you to help and support us in creating a sense of community and making London Colney a lovely place to live and work.

If you have any further feedback/ideas/ want to be involved in future events please email: events@londoncolney-pc.gov.uk

Leaking Roof Puts Vital Community Library and Centre at Risk

A serious roof leak at the London Colney Community Centre has placed one of the district’s most cherished resources—the community library—under threat. This troubling development has sparked concern among local residents and council members alike, with fears that without urgent repairs, both the library and the community centre may face temporary closure.

A Hub for Learning and Belonging

The community centre serves as a vibrant hub for residents of all ages, hosting activities ranging from fitness classes to senior socials and food bank. At its heart lies the district’s most heavily used community library—a lifeline for students, families, job seekers, and older residents.

Sadly, the persistent leaks have begun to cause damage to books, shelving units, and electrical systems within the library. Stained ceilings and damaged lighting now mar the welcoming space, forcing staff to cordon off areas and restrict some services for safety.

Funding the Fix: A Difficult Road Ahead

London Colney Parish Council has confirmed that immediate repairs are beyond the scope of its current budget. Given the scale of the issue and the critical role the building plays in community life, the council will be seeking external funding to secure the roof and protect the long-term future of both the centre and the library.

CEO and resident of London Colney Jane Johnstone, speaking on behalf of the Parish Council, shared:

“The community centre and library are vital to the well-being and cohesion of our parish. This is not just a building—it’s a lifeline for many. We are actively exploring funding sources including grants, community infrastructure funds, and other support.”

What’s Next?

A formal funding application process is already underway, but timelines remain uncertain. In the meantime, council staff are doing their utmost to mitigate damage and keep the building operational. Temporary closures of parts of the library may be necessary in the coming weeks for safety assessments and remedial work.

Residents are encouraged to follow updates via the council’s website and community noticeboards.

LONDON COLNEY PLAY PARKS

Following our recent annual playground inspections we have sadly had to remove the swings in the Caledon Road play park and the slide from the Shenley Lane play park.  We are currently completing due diligence checks before we can sign off to complete these works.  It is unfortunately a long process.  We will update you just as soon as we can.  Thank you for your patience.
